FAQ’s

GENERAL INFORMATION:

How do I know if I am eligible for defensive driving/traffic school?

Every state has different criteria that must be met in order to qualify for a defensive driving/ticket dismissal course. It is always important to confirm with the particular court that you are dealing with, prior to your “Court Date,” whether or not you qualify to take our Happy Time Defensive Driving course.

Is this course “State Approved?

Yes, Happy Time Defensive Driving is STATE APPROVED by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Our TEA School Code is: 2456

If I take the Happy Time course for ticket dismissal, will I also get a certificate for “Insurance Discount/Reduction”?

Yes, Happy Time Defensive Driving is approved by both T.E.A and the Texas State Board of Insurance for BOTH “Ticket Dismissal” and “Insurance Discount/Reduction.” Upon completion of our course, you will receive 2 certificates marked accordingly on the right hand side.

Can I take the Happy Time course for the purposes of “Insurance Discount/Reduction” only?

Yes, Happy Time Defensive Driving is approved by the Texas State Board of Insurance Agents for “Insurance Discount/Reduction.”

What happens if I have taken a defensive driving class for “Insurance Discount/Reduction” only and then receive a ticket, can I/will I be required to take the class again or can I use the certificate I received for the ” Insurance Class” to dismiss my ticket?

Not a problem at all, most courts will not allow you to dismiss a current ticket with a certificate from a previous class, regardless of why you took the class, “Insurance Discount” or otherwise. You may however request permission from the respective court to take a defensive driving class for a ticket dismissal. Most courts will require that you take a separate class to dismiss each traffic citation.

What if I receive more than 1 ticket, how many times can I take a defensive driving course for a ticket dismissal/point reduction?

You may take a defensive driving course as many times as a court will allow you. Texas has a point system in place and there are additional charges that may be imposed on you by the Department of Public safety based on the number of points on your driving record. To avoid additional charges by the DPS and increased insurance premiums request the class a second or third time. The worst-case scenario is that the courts will not allow you to take the class again within a given time frame. The best-case scenario is that the courts will allow you to take it again and you will avoid dealing with the consequences of points on your driving record.
